The U.S. filed a civil complaint in federal court Thursday seeking to recover archaeological artifacts looted by ISIL and sold internationally. Four artifacts are specifically referenced in the filing (shown left). U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Channing D. Phillips stated, "This complaint demonstrates the United States government's intent to diligently pursue actions that will limit the ability of ISIL and other terrorist organizations to generate revenue." Under U.S. law, assets belonging to terrorists or terrorist groups is subject to forfeiture.
